World’s Longest Itakamaboko Challenge Held
September 23, 2015
On Sunday, October 4, 2015, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., we held an event on Odawara Kamaboko Street (in front of the Odawara Kamaboko Hall, 3-4-17 Honcho, Odawara, Kanagawa) to attempt the creation of a 100-meter itakamaboko.
This initiative was organized as a challenge for a Guinness World Record, carried out through the combined efforts of all 13 member companies of the Odawara Kamaboko Cooperative Association.
According to Guinness regulations, only kamaboko that includes the process of filleting fish to obtain the fish meat can be recognized as authentic kamaboko. For this event, Yamajou Kamaboko provided surimi prepared entirely from filleted fish.
Certified by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare as a “Monozukuri Meister” in kamaboko craftsmanship, Junsei Uemura led the challenge as the chairman of the Odawara Kamaboko Cooperative Association. Together with participating companies, he aimed for the record.
After inspection, although the full 100 meters was not achieved, sections that did not meet the required width were excluded, and a total of 87.95 meters was officially recognized as a Guinness World Record.
We sincerely appreciate the many visitors who came to watch the event.
